Yoga for the Season of Cupid

January is in the can, February is off and running! This month makes me think of chilly weather, my lifelong friend Kelly (happy birthday!), and other people’s Valentine’s Day.  You see, when you own a restaurant, Valentine’s Day is one of the biggest and busiest days of the year.  It also means never celebrating Valentine’s Day ON the day!  So to me, February feels more like Valentine’s season.  A season of celebrating love and relationships of all kinds.  It might even be celebrating your relationship with your favorite football team (go Chiefs!).

What better way to have fun and celebrate the season of cupid than with partner yoga? We sold out last year, had a great time, and can’t wait to do it again. It’s this Sunday, February 12, from 2-4, so plenty of time before Super Bowl kickoff.  This is an annual event for friends, partners, and spouses to have some time for connection, release, support, and fun!

How so?

✋ Yoga is usually a solitary endeavor, even if you are surrounded by people. But human touch is integral to health, happiness, and a sense of connection.   I consider touch an antidote to loneliness and an avenue to joy.  And we know it works in measurable ways! Studies show that touch strengthens your immune system, improves sleep, reduces stress, and ramps up the body’s production of its natural painkillers.

🫠 Also, we all carry around so much.  We have burdens on our shoulders, tension in our jaw, our hands clench and our backs cry out.  One of the best ways to let go is to surrender our weight to another.  Can you imagine being supported in just the right way that tells your body, "It's safe to relax. Go ahead.  Release your tension."  Let your daily armor melt away so you can be truly supported by another and let the good vibes flow!

🪄 And then, because you receive support, you increase your bandwidth to support someone else.  You can better tune in to what that other person needs.  You regulate your breath together, help them let go, and become sensitive to the needs of your partner.  This fulfills the circuit of giving and receiving.  As you pour out with loving attention, your cups are filled as well.  It's like magic, but better.

Perhaps most importantly, we're going to have FUN.  Safe, happy, wholesome, playful, fun.  Yoga doesn't have to be all work and no play!  Let's let go a bit.  There will be laugher.  There will be falling down and getting up.  There will be lying down and letting go.  And when I say something ridiculous or eye rolling, you'll have someone there to roll eyes or snicker with.  I'm all for that.

So bring your spouse, your partner, your BFF, a random stranger, or let me match you up! This is a community event. No experience necessary.  Just have a body and an open attitude.  It is at Castle Hill Fitness, 1112 N Lamar Blvd.  There are a limited number of spots available, so please make your reservation soon.

I look forward to seeing you (y'all) on the mat.

 Much love,

Jess

P.S. Remember! The season of cupid continues with the monthly Chakra Savvy Yoga Practice! This month's theme is..LOVE. Come be inspired in your anahata💚 on February 26!
